INSTRUCTIONS:
? On the top of the first page, identify the course, instructor, student and “Assignment Number 1”.
? Follow the format of the question, typing the question’s introduction followed by the questions
themselves separately in single space and then the answer in double space under each separate
question.
? Number the pages (i.e. page 1 of 3).
? Be sure to carefully edit all answers for grammar, spelling and the flow and connection of sentences
and paragraphs.
? Try to keep the completed assignment no longer that three (3) to five (5) pages.
? The objective is for you to demonstrate your understanding of the subject matter in the question, the
class sessions and the related readings.
? Use the course texts, discussions from the class sessions, material distributed in the class sessions and
other articles, materials and/or books to develop the answers.
? Be certain to cite the sources within the body of each answer and provide a listing of all references –
use only substantiated and recognized sources with well supported facts of information (avoid
unsubstantiated documents, opinions, media bulletins, commentary, etc.) – be aware that your
discussion will not be supported otherwise.
? Keep your answers to the point, succinct, clear and concise – remember that you are presenting to an
audience of managers (consider that you are presenting in the format of a management report).
? Answers need not be wordy and lengthy but should provide enough information to confirm the
student’s comprehension of the subject matter in the question.
? Be sure the answers are well organized and easy to follow (think of this as a report to advise
management and they must review it in a meeting as one item on a busy agenda).
? The completed assignment is due by e-mail no later than March 3, 2020.

QUESTIONS:
1. In the first four class sessions, an emphasis was given to having the students apply a framework in
which to understand there is an inherent tension experienced within health care organizations and
depicted by “the clinical thinking and the business thinking”. It was emphasized that while the course
addresses the financial aspects of health care organizations (part of the “business thinking”), the
“clinical thinking” is necessary to make the organization an entity that provides health care services
